Perfumer Geza Schoen
Geza Schoen is a German perfumer known for his innovative and unconventional approach to fragrance creation.
Born in Kassel, Germany, he grew up in a stimulating environment as his father was an art teacher and his mother a kindergarten teacher.
Geza became interested in perfumery while studying chemistry at the University of Heidelberg.
After graduating, he formally trained in perfumery at Haarmann & Riemer (now Symrise), where he learned the art and science of fragrance creation.
Geza's passion for perfumery has led him to collaborate with various brands and artists, including Diesel, Ormonde Jayne, FCUK, Boudicca and Anat Fritz.
He is best known for his Escentric Molecules brand, which was launched in 2006. The brand emphasizes a few aroma molecules with their own radiance and depth of character.
This approach is a break from traditional perfumery where a mixture of different ingredients is used to create a fragrance.
Geza has received numerous awards for his exceptional work in the perfume industry. For example, in 2016 he received the Outstanding Artist Award for Interdisciplinarity and in 2017 the Sadakichi Award for Experimental Work with Fragrance, together with Wolfgang Georgsdorf for "Osmodrama / Smeller 2.0".
Geza's unique approach to perfumery has attracted a loyal following and earned him a reputation as a niche perfume rock star. His work is characterized by a willingness to work with advanced synthetic ingredients and big ideas that challenge the norms of traditional perfumery.
Geza's passion for natural ingredients, admiration for 1980s and 1990s perfumery, and aversion to most new "niche" perfumes have made him an iconoclastic figure in the perfume world.
