Perfumer Caroline Dumur
Caroline Dumur is a perfumer at IFF and her passion for fragrance can be traced back to her childhood on her grandparents' farm in northern France. She was surrounded by the scents of flowers, cheese, hay and animals, which stimulated her sense of smell and fueled her fascination with the world of perfumery.
Growing up, Caroline was exposed to various perfumes worn by the women in her life, absorbing every olfactory impression to remember them forever. Her parents, both editors, introduced her to the biographies of master perfumers and the history of perfumery, which confirmed her desire to become a perfumer.
Caroline followed her passion by earning a chemistry degree in fragrances and flavors and then attending ISIPCA to earn her master's degree. For her, the fragrance is the realization of an idea created by the instinctive association of different materials, and each composition bears the imprint of its creator.
Her preference for certain materials is her main source of inspiration and she is not afraid of a challenge. Caroline does not shy away from the exaggerated, dark and mysterious associations. She likes to quote Ingres, whom she greatly admires, and loves the way he works with textures, his freedom of style that gives way to the real and the beautiful. For Caroline, it's just a matter of interpretation, of doing things your way and using your own observations.
In general, Caroline is intuitive, mysterious and very distinctive, and her compositions are filled with different colors and materials that evoke emotions and feelings. She is always open to a challenge and her love for warm, freshly distilled materials continues to inspire her to this day. Caroline aims for the highest in her career and as she likes to say, "Aim for the moon; even if you miss, you'll reach the stars."
